Fullcryo assisted in the successful development of China’s first 5 TPD large-scale hydrogen liquefaction device

On March 8th, 2024, the 5 ton/day large-scale Hydrogen Liquefaction System, a pilot special task of the Chinese Academy of Sciences developed by the Institute of Physics and Chemistry Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, passed the test and acceptance in Beijing.

The 5 ton/day large-scale hydrogen liquefaction device is a pilot project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences led by the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is jointly developed, designed and integratedly manufactured by the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fullcryo Company, realizing the localization of the large-scale hydrogen liquefaction device. The device adopts a Helium Refrigeration cycle process, with three gas-bearing low-temperature turbine expanders providing cooling capacity; it is equipped with an advanced catalyst-filled high-efficiency low-temperature heat exchanger to simultaneously complete the cooling of hydrogen and the continuous catalytic conversion of n-para hydrogen. According to the requirements of the mission statement, the system has a stable operation time of 8.5 hours at full load and 73 hours at low load. Under full load operating conditions, the hydrogen liquefaction rate is 3070.2 L/h (about 5.17 tons/day), the parahydrogen content of the liquid hydrogen product is 98.66%, and the energy efficiency ratio of the liquefaction system is 12.98 kW·h/kg liquid hydrogen (including liquid nitrogen loss) , the adiabatic efficiency of the turbine expander exceeds 80%, and the overall performance of the device reaches the international advanced level.

Since the project was established in 2021, under the leadership of the project team of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fullcryo has adhered to the goal orientation, overcome difficulties, and made every effort to ensure project delivery and acceptance. In the future, Fullcryo will continue to work together with the Institute of Physics and Chemistry to continue to iterate the R&D technology and manufacturing level of large-scale hydrogen liquefaction equipment, and produce a series of 10-100 tons/day large-scale hydrogen liquefaction equipment with completely independent intellectual property rights, which will serve as the basis for my country's "dual carbon "making greater contributions to the realization of goals and energy structure adjustment and transformation.
